Describe your style in ten words or less.
Classic, trendy, eclectic, glamorous, romantic. Always changing and well-tailored.
How do you believe you capture the American spirit through your clothes?
Two ways. First I am a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl. I love to dress up basics with fabulous heels, earrings, bracelets, necklace (though obviously not all together) with a statement bag. Second, my style is very eclectic. It's a giant melting pot of inspiration and ideas.

Lifestyle. I think the USA tends to be more casual than European countries. Americans buy clothing at a cheaper price point, whereas Europeans tend to buy a few really nice, expensive pieces and wear them more often. This probably explains their dressier lifestyle.
What five items can you not live without?
Jeans, basic t-shirt, wrap sweater (live in the ones from BCBG!), black patent leather pumps and my gold Michael Kors mens watch. (and the John Hardy ring my boyfriend gave me!).

Describe the style scene in Saint Louis. What do you forecast for Saint Louisans in 2010?
The style scene is country club casual. Think Lilly Pulitzer, J. Crew, Vineyard Vines, Style here is getting a little better thanks to some great boutiques popping up all over the city as well as easy access to ecommerce! I buy almost all of my clothes online so I don't look like everyone else and can at least try to keep up with style on the coasts! My forecast for St. Louisans in 2010 is more of the same: country club casual! I'm working on it! Hopefully Joy&Cake will inspire our fair city to break out of the mold!
What is your favorite place in the USA, and how does it translate to your wardrobe?
My boyfriend and I recently took a road trip up the coast of California. I fell in love with Santa Barbara and Sonoma. I also love Winter Park, Florida, where I grew up and Frankfort, Michigan, where I vacationed as a child. The way they translate into my wardrobe is just their easygoing laid back attitude. Style shouldn't be hard. It should just reflect who you are and what you're feeling that day. I just go with the flow when putting looks together (that and whatever's not in a crumpled ball on my bedroom floor!). Also, I buy ten times more clothes in spring and summer because I love warm weather! It's so much more fun to shop for flowy dresses, sandals, tanks and rompers!

When did you discover your interest in fashion, and how has it matured?
Around the age of five. My mom was still picking out my clothes, and I liked her taste, although I pretty much only wore dresses with black patent leather shoes and ruffled socks. To preschool, natch! But what really emphasized my young fashion eye was when my sweet grandma would embroider or smock a little dress and mail it to me in Florida. I would pull it out of the box and absolutely refuse to wear it. My mom would force me to put the dress on for five minutes to get a picture, but that was the end. Thank God I went to Catholic school and didn't have to pick out an outfit every day. My mom and I would definitely not have both survived! My interest in fashion matured during high school and inspired me to get a minor in fashion in college. Now I just can't get enough! I'm constantly studying fashion and I love it!
